(8th edition)

May 15 - 31, 2011

Eighth edition of the international festival of Alba, with the artistic Direction of Giuseppe Nova, Jeff Silberschlag, and Larry Vote: a strong cultural project, a growing approval and an extensive international consideration. Starting with the spring edition: the city will breath music, giving voice to great performers and to a varied and engrossing program.

The inauguration is planned for Thursday, May 19, 2011 (with a preview on Sunday the 15th at the Fondazione E. di Mirafiore at Fontanafredda), and the festival will continue uninterrupted until May 31st, presenting an average of two concerts a day, passing through a grand symphonic repertoire of chamber music, recitals, past and contemporary music. Over 100 guests from the United States and artists coming from about 15 countries of the world, high-level soloists, including Giuseppe Nova, Jeff Silberschlag, and Larry Vote who, beyond occupying themselves with the artistic direction, will perform for a few evenings.

The Festival opens with the Berlin Philharmonic Quintet e continues with Valery Oistrakh, one of the most brilliant violinists of Russian tradition, grandson of the legendary violinists David Oistrakh, and then the Quartetto Consonante in the preview at Fondazione Mirafiore di Fontanafredda, the pianists Bruno Canino, Brian Ganz, Eliza Garth, Bertrand Giraud, Patrice Laré, Simone Sarno, Corrado Greco, Francesco De Zan, the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beaux Art Trio, Bruno Gambarotta in a gala dedicated to Italian Unification, Velitchka Yotcheva, Francis Duroy, Silvia Mapelli, Daniel Grosgurin, Joaquin Palomares, Kiriko Shomobarai winner of the Japanese competition at Biwako, Giampaolo Bandini, the Spanish duo Lama-Cabruja, Paul Cortese, Bruno Monsaingeon, Sonia Franzese, Nicola Davico, the American musicians José Cueto, Jennifer Rende, Suzanne Orban, Olivia Vote, Jeanne Fryberger, Mike Adams, the Washington String Trio, Dino Bosco, Neil Gallie, Christine Smith, Andrea Bertino, the St. Mary’s Chamber Singers and many more.

Not to be missed are the side events that will animate the days of the Festival, the traditional open rehearsals of the Festival, the composition Workshops held by David Froom with Forest Tobey, Robert Gibson, Giacomo Platini, Osvaldo Coluccino and Willy Merz, the exhibition of the photographer Bruno Murialdo with the most significant photos of the previous edition, and the installation of the event in collaboration with the Fondazione Marz di Torino, the exhibition of the painter Gabriella Piccatto with paintings inspired by the Alba Music Festival, Moysa, the photographic exhibition of Luca Capoccia in collaboration with Apollinaire, and the collaboration with other partners.

Of particular importance is the co-production with the Alba International Film Festival (that will take up the baton on June 1st) in a grand event with music and cinematic projection, dedicated to David Oistrakh and to the art of filming music.

The evening of Sunday, June 5th will be an appendix to the Alba Music Festival with a concert at the close of the Settimana della Comunicazione, at 9 PM in the Temple of Saint Paul in piazza San Paolo at Alba.
